Restorative Yoga is much, much more than Savasana. This receptive style of Yoga uses gentle stretching, supported poses, conscious breathing, and meditation techniques to make deep relaxation possible; physically, mentally, & emotionally. When we rest deeply & completely, all the bodily systems & organs benefit. This leads to better balance in the body's chemistry, including blood sugar, blood pressure, & cholesterol. There is less tension in the muscles, we feel less tired, & we sleep better. Our body breathes, digests, and eliminates more efficiently, so we feel more vital & healthy. The mind relaxes, and we become more creative, focused, and clear. The practice & experience of Restorative Yoga gives the body/mind complex's own innate healing ability the opportunity to re-set the nervous system and to cleanse & heal the body.

Fundamentals:  In this class you'll be introduced to the basic principles & theory behind Restorative Yoga & how to practice & teach it. We'll explore the benefits of restorative poses & why they are such an important adjunct to a more active Yoga practice, especially in dealing with chronic & daily stress. Subjects to be covered include foundational restorative poses, breath awareness & basic supported pranayama; meditation techniques, innovative use of props; sequencing; & planning classes. This certification course is taught in an atmosphere of hands-on open inquiry with plenty of practice with a partner for the most effective learning. You'll learn & practice a basic restorative sequence that your students (and you!) will look forward to, so you can heal, nurture, & relax deeply.

Advanced:  In this class you'll learn how to set up & practice more poses and additional restorative sequences. You'll also be given guided meditations, advanced supported pranayama & progressive relaxation techniques to use including Yoga Nyasa and Yoga Nidra. You will be introduced to Therapeutic Restorative Yoga: gentle therapeutic modifications and application of Restorative Yoga poses and techniques for individuals or groups of people with similar illness or condition. Prerequisite: level one.
