This ancient system of healing has its roots in Yoga and Ayurveda from India, and has been practiced in Thailand for centuries. Also known as Thai energy therapy; assisted Hatha yoga; or Thai intensive stretching, a complete session will incorporate a combination of acupressure, energy meridian work, deep breathing, and yoga stretching and twisting for an invigorating and balancing experience; much like receiving a yoga class! It takes place on the floor on a thick mat in comfortable clothing, and lasts around 80 mimutes.
The benefits of Thai yoga therapy are similar to those of traditional yoga movements and breathing, but are received in a more passive manner, using no effort. They include release of deep and subtle tensions; improved circulation both physically and energetically; enhanced flexibility and muscle tone; more freedom in the joints; and deep relaxation. Thai yoga can also help to relieve soreness and stiffness from over-exertion or from illnesses such as arthritis or fibromyalgia. It encourages lymphatic function, thereby aiding in detoxifying the body and helping with immune response. Thai yoga also helps to prevent disease and/or injury by promoting flexible and supple joints and ligaments, and allowing the client to deeply relax so that the body’s own healing powers can work.
The theory behind the technique is based on the principle of energy flow between specific points on the periphery of the body and internal organs and systems. These acupressure points are linked through an intricate network of thousands of energy conduits, and when activated, the result is a blend of relaxation and stimulation, promoting the natural healing processes.
A typical session lasts about an hour and twenty minutes, and may be done in your home. Cost is $85 per session. To schedule, telephone or email Kim.
